Finally!!! It’s time for me to work on the primary bedroom. I honestly don’t know how I haven’t done this space yet. I can still remember how it felt in our last home to have a fully finished and happy space to relax in at the end of the day and how peaceful that felt after living through a construction zone when we redid the floors. I vowed that the primary bedroom would be a priority space in our next home.

Well… here we are having lived here for almost two years and I haven’t touched a single thing. That’s not quite true, I took down the curtains that I couldn’t stand. The empty rod is still up there as is random hanging hardware around the room from the previous owners. We did also hang a TV in here, which I swore I would never do, but I actually love it especially when the kids are sick. But you know how it is! I got put on bed rest right after we moved, then I wanted to give Theia a nursery, we needed a more functional pantry, Elliott was moving to a big boy bed so it made sense to do a room for him then. Life happens and plans change!

Anyway! The point is that basically, this space is untouched. We’ve been sleeping in this blank, very brown space and I am more than ready (thrilled, actually) to have the bandwidth to finally give ourselves a cozy retreat.
So without further adieu, here are the plans!

One of the other things that delayed this room is that I couldn’t quite figure out what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted it to be bright because the light in here is weird and it often feels dim, so I’m doing light color on the walls and I might have an electrician come out and install some recessed lighting… we’ll see on that.

I also want an accent wall, but the arched entry into the primary bathroom was throwing me for a loop. I had a hard time wrapping my brain around what exactly I wanted to do with an accent wall around an arched opening and unfortunately, that really is the only wall that makes sense for the bed to go on. I have a few ideas now, but I’m still mulling them over. When the right plan comes to me, I’ll know it.

This is the only room in our house with vaulted ceilings and I love them. The room isn’t huge, but I think it can still handle some really pretty wood beams to accent the ceiling. I also want to bring in some warmth by replacing the carpet with wood floors (or LVP) and a nice area rug.

And of course, the showstopper piece – the fireplace! Do you remember when I added the fireplace to our living room downstairs? I’m going to do something similar to add one up here. Talk about cozy! This is probably the part of the room I’m most excited for.
