I. Built. This. There is nothing that compares to the high of finishing a project after pouring hours upon hours into it. I guess that is what keeps bringing me back to DIY. The sense of accomplishment after taking something that I dreamed up, designed, and then built with my own two hands is addicting, and this room really takes the cake for me. I love everything about it and I love that I was able to give my little boy something that truly is so special to me.

Let me take you back to the moodboard (and the before). You can see that a few things changed, but for the most part I think I did a pretty good job sticking to it. The biggest detour was adding in the mustard color. We went to Target one day and Elliott fell in love with this little lamp, so I decided to shift from dark green accents to mustard and, wow. I love it paired with the blue!

Elliott wanted bright teal blue walls, but we compromised on this more muted version (Benjamin Moore Atmospheric).

The built-ins were quite the project (tutorial coming soon). I don’t even want to add up the amount of time I spent on them because it was just so much work, but definitely worth it, right? I love the sense of sophistication they bring to the room, plus they will give him plenty of space to display his treasures. In fact, in that little round glass jar are a bunch of seashells he collected and brought back from the beach in Mexico.

And then we get to the wallpaper. I didn’t know I could love a wallcovering this much, but alas. I do. You can find me sitting in his room staring at it for the foreseeable future.

Elliott’s current obsession is the Cars movie. Every red car we see is Lightning McQueen, the blue ones are all Doc, and there are even a few lime green ones around town that are, of course, Chic Hicks. I found these prints on Etsy and not only do they match his room perfectly, but he immediately told me exactly which Cars characters each one is and proceeded to tell me their individual backstories. They’re a hit, for sure.

I hope that Elliott can feel the love that I have for him through this room that I built for him and I hope he makes a million happy memories in it. Did you have a fun room growing up? Tell me in the comments below what some of your happiest childhood room memories are!

With love, Mercedes ♥
