Violet’s Whimsical Vintage Nursery

Vi turns six months old next week – where has the time gone? I just want to soak up all of her tiny baby-ness and never let her get bigger. Seriously. She has been my easiest, most go with the flow baby and has truly been such a joyous addition to our family. Such a happy girl deserves such a happy room, so here it is!

To be completely honest, when I was first trying to design this room I had a really hard time deciding what I wanted to do. Once I decided on this wallpaper and a pink shiplap ceiling, everything else just fell into place.

The wallpaper is the main event here. I love it so much that I procrastinated hanging anything on the walls because I didn’t want to cover up a single square inch. It’s so beautiful! It feels very soft and feminine and bright and youthful.

Before we moved Vi over to her room and she was still sleeping in her bassinet in our room, she was super into the beams on our ceiling. It was so adorable! It also made me happy that I had decided to do something fun with her ceiling.

Putting shiplap up here was a much faster and easier project than I expected, and the pink makes my heart so happy! I debated between a clean white (classic), yellow (sunshiney bright – would have been so fun), matching a blue in her paper (happy blue skies), or pink. Obviously pink won and I’m so glad that I went with the risk. It paid off big time!

Watch more about the paint I used here – it was my first time using this line and I’m super impressed.

Since the vibe I was going for was whimsical vintage, I added this vintage style gold crib (I actually used the same one, just in white, in Theia’s room) and some vintage artwork in beautiful (but affordable) walnut frames.

Blackout blinds and curtains are a must have in kids rooms. After searching high and low for the perfect shade of creamy white blackout curtains, I found these ones from target. They are perfect! I have also used Select Blinds roman shades in every bedroom in our house now and they never disappoint!

I have used this rocking chair for each baby and while I do wish I would have gotten a reclining one, I still love it! This time around I added this adorable sheep ottoman (we named him Russell) to use as a foot rest. It also has a small compartment inside, which is perfect for storing her toys.

The dresser moved around the room a bunch before it found its’ home over here. I even started with a different dresser, then swapped it out for this one. I changed out the knobs on it so that it went with the style of the room a little bit better and I hung this sweet mirror above it. There’s nothing cuter than a baby smiling ear to ear at themselves in the mirror!

Because this room has a pretty small footprint and due to the furniture layout I wanted, I decided to take the door off the closet to make it more functional. This meant the closet needed to look nice, though, and not be an afterthought since it will always be on display. I will do a separate blog post on how exactly I did the shelving in here. Not only does it look 10x cuter now, but it is also so much more functional.

This bookshelf was on the top of my list of things that I wanted for Vi’s nursery, but when I saw the price tag I decided to go a different direction. My mother in law surprised me and went halvsies with me on it! I love the details on the legs – it’s perfect.

I have to say, I’m super glad that this room is done. It was one of those projects that seemed to drag on forever – especially with baby nap schedules. Now that it’s finally finished, it’s such a cozy room to relax in. I can’t wait to watch my sweet little girl grow in here!

With love,
Mercedes ♥
